On August 4, Russian residential real estate developer Etalon Group signed a construction services agreement to become the building contractor for the first stage of a major international convention and exhibition center in St. Petersburg, known as ExpoForum.

The ExpoForum International Convention and Exhibition Center will be located near the Pulkovo International Airport in the St. Petersburg town of Shushary. Etalon Group Chairman Viacheslav Zarenkov described the “landmark project” as a “further demonstration of the continued recovery in construction volumes in our key regions.” The new multipurpose complex is part of an agreement signed on February 9, 2007 between the city of St. Petersburg and Gazenergoprombank.

The project aims to meet the highest international standards by providing the essential infrastructure for exhibitions and conventions in one convenient state-of-the-art site, which Natalia Konovalenko, ExpoForum board of directors’ chairperson, says will “stimulate the development of St. Petersburg as Russia's center for conventions and exhibitions.”

The center will include a host of indoor and outdoor facilities:

  • Congress center
  • Exhibition pavilions
  • Two hotels (one four-star and the other three-star)
  • Two business centers
  • Administrative office
  • Warehouse
  • Open parking The estimated value of the contract is 14 billion rubles ($500 million).

Construction of the center began in August and is set to be completed by October 31, 2013.
