Some of the world’s technological elite will gather in Yekaterinburg this week for Russia’s third annual INNOPROM convention. Discussions will focus on the future of the technology industry while simultaneously attempting to integrate its innovations into Russian and global markets. As those in the industry know, technology only sells when it has the ability to significantly simplify or aid the lives of consumers. With that in mind, INNOPROM 2012 will focus on promoting relationships between leadership in the technological and business industries. INNOPROM will focus especially on generating growth in the Urals’ real estate and construction sectors. INNOPROM participants hope discussions between state and non-state actors prove to enhance the efficiency of real estate markets of the Sverdlovsk region and lower costs significantly. In attendance will be leading local companies in Russian technology, energy, and construction fields along with industry leaders from around the world.
INNOPROM 2012 hopes to build upon the success of last year’s exhibition, which hosted around 50,000 visitors. In an effort to build on numbers, INNOPROM 2012 will include some highly impressive participants such as Guy Kawasaki of Apple, Dietrich Moeller, president of Siemens Russia & Central Asia, and Arjan de Jongste, CEO of Philips Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Central Asia.
The convention also aims to stimulate investment in and collaboration between members of the construction and technology industries by displaying the best new Russian technology and how it can improve day-to-day business. An estimated $5.47 billion was promised in business contracts as a direct result of last year’s convention.
Some of the world’s foremost economic and political minds will attend to see how their products compare to Russian technology. Representatives of major U.S. companies such as DuPont and 3M will attend along with both U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, and Andrew Sommers, president of the American Chamber of Commerce. Jean-Luc Duramy, vice president of DuPont in Eastern Europe said, “Sverdlovsk Region is the dynamically developing region of the Russian Federation. The innovative solutions from DuPont will be most important for the region's infrastructure and transportation sectors, as well as for industrial safety. This may be of interest to enterprises and to improving the quality of life here.”
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich will attend along with Yevgeny Kuyvashev, governor of Sverdlovsk, the region where INNOPROM will be held and where it hopes to benefit most. Other senior officials scheduled to participate include Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov and Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nicolai Nikiforov will attend.
The INNOPROM convention will offer “a public discussion platform” with more than 20 roundtable discussions with the goal of inspiring future legislation and policy that create an environment conducive to efficient business and construction in the region and around the world.
