Takuya Aoyama is Vice President Acquisitions and Development with Hyatt International, LLC for Europe, Africa and Middle East, and is responsible for expanding Hyatt's portfolio of brands in the markets of Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe.
Prior to joining Hyatt in 2008, Aoyama spent six years with Starwood Hotels and Resorts in Tokyo as Assistant Vice President Acquisitions and Development – Japan, Korea and Micronesia. Aoyama has worked in the field of real estate and hotel development since early 1990, and has held positions with companies including Holiday Inn Worldwide and Andersen, where he focused on projects in the former Soviet Union and Central and Eastern Europe.
Aoyama visited Moscow for the first time in 1981, and was Japan's first and only delegate to the International Pupils Olympiad of Russian Language and Literature. Aoyama has a Master's Degree from Columbia University' School of International and Public Affairs with a specialization in East Central Europe. He speaks Japanese, English, Russian, and Romanian.
